What we're focused on, why we're focused there, and how we think about building.
Technology moves fast. Our understanding of it often doesn't.
Before SUR builds anything, we study it. Before we recommend anything, we examine what recommending it actually means. Our research sits at the intersection of what AI can do, what it should do, and what it does to the people it touches, whether they chose to be touched by it or not. These aren't abstract academic questions to us. They're the foundation of every product and service we'll ever build. Getting them right matters more than getting to market fast.
Our research is early-stage. We will publish findings, open questions, and honest uncertainties as we go.
Every product we build starts with a problem we couldn't stop thinking about. Not a market gap. A genuine human need that isn't being met well.
We work from first principles, and we don't benchmark against what exists. We ask what should exist, and build toward that. The measure of everything we make is simple: does it genuinely improve someone's life?
We'd rather show you something real than describe something hypothetical. That time is coming. Until then, this is what we're working toward.
"We're not building the tenth version of something. We're asking what the first version should have been."— SUR Product Studio
Whether that's applying AI thoughtfully, building software that actually serves its users, or figuring out where technology fits into what they're doing, we work closely with a small number of organisations on exactly that.
Honest thinking, practical work, no standard packages. Every conversation starts with the actual problem.
